Vote Zheng-Hua Tan for Members-at-Large to the IEEE Signal Processing Society Board of Governors

Prof. Zheng-Hua Tan has dedicated considerable time to actively engaging in IEEE Signal Processing Society’s activities, taking on various roles throughout the society. In the society’s organizational structure, he has been a member of the two largest Technical Committees (MLSP TC and SLTC), served as the Elected Chair of the MLSP TC, and was a member of several SPS Boards. For conferences and workshops, he has contributed as a reviewer, area chair, TPC chair, and general chair. For journals, he has served as a reviewer, Associate Editor, and Lead Guest Editor. His extensive experience, proven service record, and strong commitment to the IEEE Signal Processing Society make him an ideal candidate for the role of Member-at-Large on the Board of Governors. Election to this position would allow him to further contribute to the society’s growth, strengthen its services, and help shape its future direction.

Bio
Zheng-Hua Tan is a Full Professor in the Department of Electronic Systems, the Machine Learning Research Group Leader, a Co-Head and Co-Founder of the Centre for Acoustic Signal Processing Research, and the Head of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) Doctoral Programme at Aalborg University, Aalborg, Denmark. He is also a Co-Lead of the Pioneer Centre for AI, Denmark.
He was a Visiting Scientist/Professor at the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, MIT, Cambridge, USA in 2012, 2017 and 2022. Prior to joining Aalborg University, he was an Associate Professor at the Department of Electronic Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China, and was a postdoctoral fellow at the AI Laboratory, KAIST, Daejeon, Korea. He received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from Hunan University, Changsha, China in 1990 and 1996, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in electronic engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China in 1999.
His research interests include machine learning, deep learning, self-supervised learning, speech and speaker recognition, noise-robust speech processing, and multimodal signal processing. He has (co)-authored over 250 referred publications. His works have been recognized by the prestigious IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) 2022 Best Paper Award and the International Speech Communication Association (ISCA) 2022 Best Research Paper Award.
He is a Member of the IEEE SPS Conferences Board and a Member of Speech and Language Processing TC. He was the elected Chair of the IEEE SPS Machine Learning for Signal Processing Technical Committee (MLSP TC), serving from 2021-2022, and a Member of MLSP TC from 2018-2023. He was a member of the IEEE SPS Technical Directions Board from 2021-2022.
He is an Associate Editor for IEEE Journal of Special Topics in Signal Processing inaugural special series on AI in Signal and Data Science – Toward Explainable, Reliable, and Sustainable Machine Learning. He served as an Associate Editor for IEEE/ACM Transactions on Audio, Speech and Language Processing, Computer Speech and Language, Digital Signal Processing, and Computers and Electrical Engineering. He was a Lead Guest Editor of the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Signal Processing and a Guest Editor of Neurocomputing. He is a TPC Vice-Chair for ICASSP 2024 and was the General Chair for IEEE MLSP 2018 and a TPC Co-Chair for IEEE SLT 2016. He has served as an area chair, panel and special session organizer, tutorial speaker, invited speaker, or organizing committee member for numerous international conferences. He is a senior member of the IEEE.
